I never had the coordination for dance. Not really anyway. I run into things. Like, everything. Graceful has only been used to describe me in sarcasm. When I figure skated I could make my body jump and spin but it was a motion of will and power not of skill, grace and beauty. I am in awe of dancers. So much control. So much release. Which lends itself right into the idea I have for a new project. I am going to do a series on dancers. I haven’t decided the full range of it yet. But I feel writing it down in the blog will hold me somewhat accountable to its creation and execution.
I know my strengths as a photographer. I know I can capture emotion and tell a story. I also know where I could grow, capturing movement. In order to do this personal project justice I’m going to have to push myself and grow my skills in capturing motion. It’s a skill I’ve wanted to hone in on for quite some time and this gives excuse to become a student again (nerd alert) and push myself past my comfort zone. I feel alive as I start thinking about this project and that is exciting. 🙂
Here’s a little taste of a shoot I did this morning with Katie. First of all, she’s fabulous. We drove around downtown Cinci and found this fabulous wall. (I kinda want this recreated in my house.) Then she and I just played for a bit and I let Katie stretch her very bendy legs. Enjoy. So much more to come.
